Yes m8, those two are the only methods to get an Elite Ship (by bidding with gold or buying with pearls).

how do i get an elite ship w/ gold, when i go to the elite tab(shipyard) it says i dont have one so i click that linkand it brings me to the page where i bought my ship i have now for 5k pearls, i dont see any elite ships i can choose from there.

Elite ship is available on market cove. Scroll list and I'm sure you'll find it.
