View Full Version : Things new players Will Never Know About

Not that I am one of the older salts around but there are a few things even since I have started playing that new players will never know of. Here are a few, feel free to add to the list. There are probably things some of you real old timers can tell us about when the game first began. lol

1. Hidden Shineys- you would just be sailing along and collect anywhere from 100K to 900K or so

2. Repping under monsters- you could park your boat under monsters and hide your tag. A player wanting to attack you had to tab through to hit you

3. Each rep took a full 1 min and repaired 5000K with an elite mate and premium

4. Map changes were a real stratagy and took more than a few seconds. You might get off two or three shots before a player came all the way through

5. I know the maps have changed more than a couple times. Some of us have fought battles on maps that no one may ever see again lol

6. If you wanted to know if someone was a full pearl you had to do some basic but quick math. Now you can just look at the screen

7. If you wanted to stack on someone without using coords you had to have some good timing. You had to run you boat over them and hit repair then cancel it. Sometimes it just looked like a bunch of ships ramming eachother.

That is a few anyway. Feel free to add.

if u went on map change there was big possibility that u will map on totally different part of map. examlpe: u were maping from 4/1 up to 5/1 but u would finish on top of 5/1.

I always find that firing at a good distance away from npc ships will stop them shooting back at you, also if your charging into a enemy stack make sure you keep at a good distance away and pick them off this will reduce your damage that is if the pack decides not to chase you LOL.;)

i dont think a lot of people understood the point of this post. i think that what peace keeper was trying to do was recall the old times when there were some different things happening on seafight. for example, i think he was trying to get us to recall the old times when we were in a pinch for gold, all we had to do was sail on the waters for an hour and BAM!, we were back to 3 mil gold all thanks to the hidden shinies (which btw, peace keeper, was my favorite part of the old seafight).

yes, new players might get confused by this, but thats why i suggest they dont read it, because they wouldnt get any of it anyway since seafight has changed so much. also, they might become upset if they read that just 6 months ago many pirates were getting free gold:).

anyway, i liked the post. i really havent been around on the game for that long (only about 8 months), but i still recall and recognize everything that was mentioned on this post. frankly, i believe that it was a better seafight back then, but thats just me:). anyway, thanks peace keeper for bringing back these memories. i remember watching that great lsu vs. kentucky football game and nearly missing the ending because i was too busy trying to find a monster to hide under and repair:p.

good memories,

i remember the wicked bad lag that you could buy 4 thousand pirates
and go in negative gold and pearls:D
the humping ships thing was a true sign of our loyalty - or perversion .. whatever is more politically correct .. in either case when you humped a ship it created a bond...
i remember going faster when my sails dropped and when first logging back in
i remember hiding under monsters and your ship not being able to be seen .. oh and what about the long range working from across the map ... that was sweet... and oh yea the running to go pee and counting to 60 to redo repair... and the ability to log in and zoom over to the bad guy that sunk you and sink him without him getting in one repair .. now they gain repair no matter how many minutes or seconds pass...
and there was no orange dots ... or was it there was no red dots,, well there wasn't all the dot options on mini map ...
i dont think we had to put the cords in with the number first ,,
oh and chat didn't show all of the tag...
lol
well i feel drained ... allot has changed... growth is good.. it is nice to remember ...

what about that little trick with f5 next to certain islands. sitting & repin and if some1 attacks u just refresh and pop up on the other side of map :p

or back back back in the day where pearls were called pearls not elites. everyone had the same ship and there was no powder monkeys to give a shooter an advantage.

lag was a major problem, but if you had a fast pc you was sound and could avoid any ship just by hoping a map. you had noob invincibilty no matter what your level and there was a MAJOR theif problem due to the fact that you could sit on a tia with 5k hp and wait for the last shot.

i recall a guild called Red dragon *correct if wrong* getting to number 1 in the guild rankings, just from stealing.

also how about the old school guilds, there was some real class out there. <C>, a french guild who took on the might of opes nova *now memento mori, which is not as big as ovas was* alone. or how about WSP, a guild ranked 1 for such a long time until they moved on to another game.

but the best thing has to be the emergance of 1-C :D

lol i cant believe i was playing when there was only pearl ships and no elites ... makes me feel reallly old on this game now lol .. nd my favourite things about seafight were the hidden shineys and hiding under the monster .. and also it used to be different clicking on ships .. now u gota click on their little circle but u used to be able to click on any of their ship i think it was to get lock on them lol :D

-_unknown_-
15.07.2008, 19:41
ohh nd also on the old seafight if u was in a stack i had to click before they had even started counting down before i started moving when the channel commander would say ok ready? .. i would click then there wud be a 3...2...1...go and then we would all move lol ^^

teamspeak ;)

lest see i remember lots lmao

i remember getting my pearl ship 2nd day in and being offered a challenge to become the council of GSD the counterpart of G$D that challenge was to sink 3 ratpack in 10 mins i done it with flying colors the leader was kingshane if any of you renember him with billy wolf and supremo as leaders for G$D

i remember getting my 1st pearl v pearl and saltyseasarg coming to my rescue we have been good mates ever since

i remember the L$D wars with Anubis & his guild "light sokes up darkness" attacking all engalish guilds.

i remember the times then with the grait "lags" during the L$D wars and there being a problem which meant ncps were only in 2/2 2/5.

i remember when there were only 700 avrage online players and a total of 200,000 players registed as supposed to the millions now

i remember when maps only went to level 3

i renember beeing the 1st english speaking player to get to level 9 and being the last to level 10 lmao (tias scared me then)

i remember helping twinsails & lord I pass there level 3 test the original 1-C counsil along with ppauls

i remember D&R and T$M where me and sedna66 met so long ago

i remember helping Ultra getting his elite ship after we were embarrassed by his 75K ship

this is just off the top but hell its alot of history there from seafight i have been there during the rise of so many great players today

I remember when the NPC ships would "sleep" and you could sink a dutch without getting shot in return - which was really handy when you only had 6 p cannons and no elite balls :)

Darn. I was hoping for one of those.

As for the thread. I use to think that getting a 75,000 gold ship on the first day was a great accomplishment that only I did. Even announced it on the chat server, LoL. Hated when I got sunk that time.

Hi,
Just came across your posts to help newbies. I'm relativelly new myself, but feel none of your tips that helpfull. I wasted millions and millions, ship after ship before i got the hang of it, and this is my 3rd account. I have a few tips that could help others that i'd like to share.

Tip 1: When you first start and have that tiny ship, as soon as i got enough money i started to buy new ships. These were okay at killing newbies, but still stood no chance at the majority. Save your money, keep harpoooning, get the elite ship out the bizarree. Even if you spend 1.999999 million on a ship like i did, it still aint enough to pass the pirate test 5. As you go up in test's you need boats that qualify. Why waste money keep swapping ships, when just get the elite from the start.

Tip 2: getting the elite ship aint that hard. You can buy it with pearls, or do like me and most others and purchase from the bizare auction. I have lost over 2 million on bidding on this before. I did however get mine for 101050. Thats not even close to the price of a decent boat idf you buy it with gold. How did i get it that cheap, well that's easy. Just bid at the right time of day. Bid at 6-10 pm uk time, and there will be lots of people after it. Bid at 6.00am like me, and you can get a real bargain!

Tiip3: Bizarre. Be carefull in the bizarree. You can loose such a lot of money, that you spent ages to collect. Bid wise and becarefull on the two new characters they have added + the light of tortiga. These 3 are new, so sought after, as ever pirate wants the new charcters.

Tip 4: Pirate test. You have to take your test to move up the map to new maps. When you pass your'e first test you cap move up to level 2. Beware as i found there are more elite ships on these waters, all to happy to sink you. There is a new monster on this map, and there are even more monsters on map 5. They are larger here, take a lot more to kill, but give you more money. The computers pirate ship gangs, also hold large sums of money when you kill them. good way to build up your cash, rather than keep hapooning and sink smaller pirate ships and smaller monsters. BEWARE though. when you reach level 4 you loose your'e immunity to pay the pearls when you get sunk. Till then it's free to repair, but at level 4 you have to pay 1000 pearls every time, or loose the ship.

Tip 5: Try and think ahead when recruiting pirates. I spent a fortune at purchasing cooks, captains etc. Only to win new ones in the bizare that ar far more better. So you end up firing your old ones loosing money. Think ahead

Tip 6: Not 100 percent on this and hope someone exsperienced reading can clarify. Becarefull on purchasing elite characters in the bizarre. I won 5 cooks, 6 ship mates, 4 gunners etc. All a waste i think. Apart from the captains, who controll 45 pirates each, then there is no point having more than 1, cus more doesn't do anything. I did notice that the lookouts made a difference though. I got 2, then added another and it could see farther. So i added another but no difference. So i think 3 is the limit on them. But as for Doctor, gunner, shipmate, cook, pilot, cannon mate, then only 1 is needed.

Tip 7: Taketest late at night. There is nothing more anoying than being sank by elite ships 5 mins before the end of your 1 and half hour test. Yes you have to do it all again...Doh. Well i found stay up late and take it. Less people on line and more chance of getting to complete it! As a newbie, everyone seems out to sink you. No matter what ship it was, i was shot at.

Well hope these help others as i feel if i read this when i started, it would of saved me a small fortune.

I loved when there would b special shineys on the water and you could jsut set your ship so sail up and down the map and not have to stop at each one. Also you could use noob invincibility to the stacks advantage. the noob ship could stack last on the stack and others would have to tab to reach the other ships.

i remember when SF did away with the hidden shineys and all the chat surrounding that change. I seem to recall admin stating that the hidden shineys were still present, just you had to land on them rather than sail over them.

funny, i've never heard of anyone actually landing on one of these new "hidden" shineys yet ....
