How do I check that my signature has been properly uploaded or not?

You'll know when you make a post and it is either visible or not.
Another option is while in the 'Edit Signature' section of the User CP, you can click on the 'preview' button and get a view of what it will look like.

You need to host your signature with a picture host site like photobucket (there are a lot of free ones), and then use a link that is meant for the forum in your signature.

Please remember that the max. size should not exceed 500 x 200 pixels

When you see your picture in your signature, it's uploaded properly
