Default Extra health or Extra Armour

Now I know there is a thread in DK forum about this, but I was wondering across all the classes what people tend to prefer.

Personally I was gutted earlier when I ID'd my level 31 EXT boots, and got extra health on them, compared to my extra armour on my magic ones I had equipped..

Whats better in everyone's opinion?

PvE, I don't know, I've not really noticed much difference either way, balance it is my opinion, just get them all high, it really makes little difference.

PvP.
Extra Health is useful against all 3 classes, it takes them slightly longer to kill you.

Extra Armour is only useful against 1 class properly, the Ranger.
DW's can negate your entire armour, and they pretty much do this all the time then 1 shot you so extra armour is a waste here, lets say extra armour is worth it against 1 1/2 classes. Extra armour however does make a more difference in terms of damage reduction, it is more useful than health in what it does.

Extra Resistance is only useful against 1 class, Spellweavers. And not completely useful again, considering they have a Damage spell that bypasses it. However Resistance is very useful, like Armour when it works. Just imagine getting 50% resistance against a red essence mage, that would make them cry.

The default answer everyone has, is get extra health, it's an all rounder.

My answer is make use of the economies of scale in Resistance and Armour - If you are only using 1 set of armour.
You get more value at lower levels, then the benefit you get tails off as it gets higher.
So make use of the more benefit bit, and get a little of all, is my response.

A really dedicated pvper, would get say 3 Chest items, with 4+1 gemslots, and equip them with a different gem set. 1 with HP, 1 with armour and 1 with resistance. Then you would swap your chest over, depending on the opposition in the arena. Of course, an even more deicated pvper, would do this with his entire equipment set.

as blueberry said, i personally never bother with armor gems. as i leveled i always sued ehalth gems.armor is a bit weak in pvp due to the fact sws can bypass it and dw can engate it.

once i hit 40 and got good gear i now sue a cmbineation of mr/health.

mr up to 25%.i say 25 % cause..ive done the math.after 25% u get diminishing returds from r(less % per point) so the magic numbers for mr is 520.which will put you at 25% mr at lvl 40.

then i stacked the rest of my gear with health gems.the ehalth will work agaisnt all classes, and the 25% mr will help agaisnt sws a bit in pvp.

this is jsut my choice of gems.im a ranger, and i also use a shield in pvp for increase damage reduction.

I personally like a strong medium, because after buying a full kingshill gear outfit when I was level 17, I found myself having too much health and not a lot of armor, therefore leaving me very defenseless and made it easy to take my health down. I right now have about 900 armor value and a little over 2k health. Level in my sig, but I am moving up at a relatively quick rate and finding more and more armor and health upgrades for me .

well yes armor is important dont get me wrong, but you should have more health then armor.

i think a good ratio is at least 1/2. for every 1 armor u want at least 2 health.and a good shield/orb if you want more defence.

armor will reduce the amount of damage u take per physical hit, but without a good health pool you wont have the ehalth to withstand the constant incoming damage that is not reduced by the armor.thats where a good shield/orb will come into play to further reduce the incoming damage.or if the attacks are magical thats where MR will help.

for pve and pvp it can vary a bit what sort of defensive build you want.

I agree with you 100%, daytora. I have found this out playing on my own, and have a pretty darn close to a 1/2 ratio of armor/health.

Ok so I understand extra armor will help you deal with just some classes, while extra resistance will only help against mages. But... lets just say I ONLY fight rangers and DKs. If I had 2 bodypl8s, 1 giving 250 armor value, and the other giving 50 armor and 200 hp, which one would I take? Would the extra 200 armor value last u longer against physical classes compared to the extra 200 hp? Because if it's the same, then everyone would be trying to go for only 600 armor value at lvl 40, but 4-5K hp

I also want to point out that more armor of the DK will not only make the DK more confident, but will give the physical attacker less confidence. Imagine that your precision arrows normally hit 1200s on people with them marked... Then, as you turn to a DK, he blocks you and you only hit a 400. You use up all ur concentration and haven't even lowered half his HP yet. By this time, most rangers would quit and pick on another opponent.

im not saying armor isnt important fusion. but youll always want more health the armor.from what ive gathered from some of the top tanks/dws on my server the best *average* ratio is a 1/2 ratio.i think armor is more inprtant to a dw then a ranged class, at least for a pve build.remember a lot of stats ahve a point of diminishing return in this game.im not exactly sure what the amount is for armor, but after a certain point u get less % reduction per point, where as health you always get the full benefit from it.yes it is important you want a good balance of alld efensive stats, and for tanking/defensive youw ant a good shield/ord that ahs extra blockrate/damage reduction on it.

and again for pvp, remember dws can iron brow/stunlock and for those 5 secs of ironbrow your armor is gone, against a sw your armor means pretty much nothing since msot of their spells bypass armor.it will help mostly agaisnt a ranger.but a well played ranger will know how to properly manage their concentration and kite the dw and bring his health down from a safe distance.

as an example my personal build on my ranger.i have less armor then other rangers, but more health.and i also like to use my shield most of the time now, which has a lot of blockrate/damage reduction on it.for gems i use health and magic resistiance.its preference but for my playstyle it works perfect.

@OP
its hard to tell jsut by saying you ahve boots with health and old ones with armor which is better.we would need to know what your stats are befre having the boots on.again its preference but it would depend how much armor you currently ahve to determine if more armor or more haelth would benefit more.
