Quick question about ranger that i cant find on forums.

Hunting arrow is only shot until you get scatter shot skill, which is useless except for grinding far lower lvl enemies for CoT's, ander and gems.

The 'Basic attack button' is clicking your mouse on the NPC.

If however you are referring to the actual attack; then as Spudtastic has helpfully said; 'Hunting Arrow' is indeed the common shot. though of course there are many more attacks as you level up.

I think phoman is asking about the tactics of playing a ranger, which many players don't understand (not even at higher levels!). So it is a great question:

The hunting arrow does a little damage but the main reason to use it is to mark monsters with a green light. When the monster has this light, shoot precision shots at it: you will do massive damage! Do not shoot precision shots on monsters without this light.

If you encounter a group of monsters, walk to them and place a trap. Then quickly walk back a few steps and let the monsters step on the trap: the whole bunch gets green lights. Now fire precision shots and pierce them all!

When you're experienced with this, you will notice that one group of monsters often is followed by another. Walk past the first one and place the trap exactly in the middle of the two groups and then let both groups light up green! In other cases the monsters are a little scattered in the beginning. Try to 'herd' them together by -for instance- walking around them, then place your trap when you're confident it wil light up the whole group.
