View Full Version : New Identify Method (solving the CoT issue)
Ok to get right to the point: Let's say we have a Legendary Item that needs 1000 CoT to identify. It is a rather large amount, and you will need A LOT of farming before you can actually WEAR it. So here is what i suggest doing to make identifying actually worth it: Make the item wearable. By that i mean don't wait until u have all the 1000 CoT just to WEAR it, make it usable by the players. BUT, only the base skill of the item is actually open. The rest 4 options (we are referring now to our Legendary item), are NOT identifyed. And if you want to open the rest of the options, u need 250 CoT to identify each one (summing up 1000 for full identify). This will change the whole mechanics behind the CoT issue that players hate. So to sum it up with one hit: You can wear all items you find, but you need alot of CoT to open it's full potential and power.
Interesting and, I believe, an original concept.
What do others think?

I agree with this idea entirely. I think it's brilliant, actually.
P.S. The idea also makes me wonder if there can be some sort of compromise to be made between players and devs to partially unlock an item with CoT.

I think i understand what you mean with that.
1: I cant support that you can wear items which has not been completely identified.
2: I CAN support that if you have 300 COT´s and you spend those on an item which needs 1000 COTs and still needs 700 COT´s to get completely identified.
3: But i cant support that the item gets open part by part.
To be honest such way of identyfing won't change a thing in general. Because unless you discover/identify at last 3 options which is 75% of base identify cost,, extraordinary items will still be more cost efficient and cheaper in identyfing.
In fact why would you want to wear item with only one option ... If you found or made legendary item you probably have a lot of extraordinary items. Which are better than legendary with one option which is just a bit better than upgraded (green). So in terms of efficiency it will still be pretty much the same and items won't give an advanatage unless you identify them totally.
In my opinion it's all fine legendary items are legendary and those should be hard to identify.
Probably lowering the drop of items and/or increasing slightly drop of crystals would help a bit to make more balance.
In the end if everyone will have full equipment of legendary items they won't be so "legendary" at all.

Identifying gear gives us all the incentive to grind harder for CoT's, and wearing partial gear is in my opinion sort of lame. CoT's are basically free, we just have to work for them. Just how easy is this game supposed to get? There is supposed to be a challenge to it. Oh, and wearing gear that is only only partially identified only makes your character weaker because you will lose armor values everytime.

I also don't think an adjustment like this will change much. A legendary is only worth it if you identify all of it.
I've read suggestions that you should be able to see what an item does before you identify it. In this way you don't identify an item that turns out to be EDITED, which is highly demotivating.
Also i think the amount of CoT should be reduced for legendaries by half.

Hmm Well Why not Increase CoT drop rate and make leggendary gear even more rare so that not every person can have it . as said before Legendary should realy be LEGENDARY

Agree, legendary's drops are way to good.
Agree, legendary's drops are way to good.
That is because legendary items are not the best. Unique ones are. And we all know the drop rate of uniques is epic rare as it should be. This is why we can't actually craft uniques.
Anyways back on topic: It seems some of you didn't understand the exact plan here.
- All items will be 'opened' just like grey items are when u find them/buy them from blacksmith. Armor for example will just give u the basic armor value and the ability to wear it.
- If you want to open more options (1 to green, 2 to magic, 3 to extraordynare, 4 to legendary) you will need CoT for each one of those options.
- Nothing will change! You will still need to buy/farm all your CoT's as usual. It's just that the whole amount of CoT will be divided to all the slots. The amount needed will not be lowered! You still need 1550 CoT to open a Herald item for example, but step by step. This will give players more interest in farming, it will remove frustration, and it may give you an insight whether you want to identify it full or just throw the item away (bad stats). How many of you got dissapointed when farming a huge amount of CoT just to reveal some useless junk? Well, this idea will help u in that situation.
P.S. Legendary items are actually very easy to get nowadays. Crafting made that possible. Alot of people confuse legendary gear with unique, which is totally wrong.
Although the idea is a great concept, what I read in between is = Legendary is worthless by the time you get COT, which also means, you are at all times fighting in areas where you gain EXP...
I hear you loud and clear on the fact that no EXP = grinding and some people HATE grinding, BUT, you get the COT drops from both scenarios, so, you can make that legendary "worth" it with grinding.
I do think cot drop rate should be higher. I mean, I agree with the lowering of anderment drop rate, but the cot is kind of out of hand, I work/get lucky for the legendary, let us use it... increasing the drop rate OR lowering the identifying would work. I, however, oppose lowering the cost of identifying because then it may "cheapen" the feel of the item.
Many posts have talked about the "viewing of the item" BEFORE you use your cots, which is another thing I agree with as you are building YOUR character... This would go along with making the legendary worth it as well....

I completely agree. What could possibly be worse that spending 1000 CoT's to identify an item you throw away?
Imagine a DK identifying a legendary armor with 4x HP buffs ... Immediate "X" out of game and pours themselves a drink ... :p
Just to let you know, we are listening to these comments. Thank you.
I don't really like this idea. A good thing about this game is its challenge and difficulty. We should work hard for our gear. I think the current identify system is perfect.
