I am a level 19 naut with an omikron sub. on the sub there are 25 sonic cannons and 10 iron plate hull (slots?)

I was wondering if i should go ahead and get a merchant sub, because i see them around... however, idk what to do with a merchant sub...

My question is, what should i do with my money,
~save it up for a while
~Get a merchant sub
~go ahead and keep buying iron plating

or something else...

Well if you save up for the merchant sub, it has allot more cargo space so therefore you can build up your cell allot faster, however, buying the iron plating raises your hitpoints to allow you to stay in a battle allot longer, so its really up to you which you want

hey, ggla, you fail to realize that your complaint/request is not relevant to my post. I would appreciate you not spamming my thread...

and about getting a merchant ship, i was just not sure if i would need to start learning trade patterns, or if simply going out and getting cargo floating around is worth the weaker sub

In my personal view, i suggest you leave the Merchant Sub and continue to get the stronger Subs. Its my understanding that you can have more than One Sub. All you have to do is log out of the charts and go back in with a different sub, by selection via the Home on the main browser. So, my point being, that you ( this is obviously up to you ) should buy the Merchant Sub, going against my views at the beggining, and only switch to it when your planning on collecting cargo. Make sure you buy as many Hull Plates as possible, and keep good enough cannons on it just in case you get hit.

I hope you found this usefull.

As GreenMarlin1 said, you can have more than one sub at anytime. The drydock holds up to 5 subs and you can switch them around but you can only use one at a time. I am presuming about the only 1 out at a time but the way the software works, it sure looks right to me.

I have my ragnorak X, tydeus and an ifrit. Other words, cadet #2 free sub, merchant sub, and combat sub. I have stopped doing trade runs. I haven't found one that is truly profitable. This doesn't mean there aren't any profitable runs, just none that I have tried/found. I collect boxes, crates, barrels, nano capsules, left behind wreckage from kills, sea urchins, anything that I can find that sells. No trade run that I tried, paid more than 2k profit at the most. Now, I take my merchant sub with 200 cargo out fill it up and sell cargo for 4k-10k depending on the stuff that I picked up. I got lucky on one run and picked up 190/200 gold. It sold at just over 10k. Like I said once. I typically make 4-6k which is still pretty good. You can make 25k in 6 or 7 runs and buy a new sub.

I am a Jafnher and I don't know if armament and capacity are the same from one faction ship to a different faction ship. The merchant sub holds 200 cargo, 25 hull slots (shields), 15 cannon and 15 turbines. The combat sub holds 60 cargo, 15 hull slots, 30 cannon and 20 turbines. I have been making about 1.5k per load in the combat sub. If I need to build cel and helix, I use the merchant sub. IF I want EP, I use the combat sub. I did not bother with the shadow sub. I still haven't figured out what the shadow is about. It holds 80 cargo, slower speed, 10 hull slots, 20 cannon and 20 turbines. 20 extra cargo spaces do not make up for the loss of fire power, shielding and speed.

I am level 26 and waited till I had what I considered to be enough equipment to equip any of the 25k subs before moving up. I filled my cadet 2 sub and bought stuff to keep in the dry dock until I had a bigger sub. Nothing will protect you from a level 80 outlaw, but 10 or 15 iron hulls certainly help when facing NPC's.

I must agree with redbeard with one little difference - I do not use merchant ship at all. I found it too damn slow and unmanuverable. Most times when I come back with combat ship it must be repaired. After gather only 60 items from the sea it is damaged so much, that I must spend almost minute in base, waiting for repairing. If I stay longer to gather 200 items - the ship will be damaged so, that the repaires will take even longer. So I manage to do more runs in combat ship , then with merchant one and profit is just about the same. But if someone shoot me down I lose 60 items at the most, not 200.

These are all great answers but the question needs to be out in the User area as it is not a support question.
