Default Game requirements

Hey, I would like to know what are the min/recommended requirements for DO to run normally. I browsed around, but couldn't find anything about that.

Last time i saw requirements posted was something like this

1 ghz cpu
1 gb RAM
256 MB GPU

not sure about connection

was long time ago so with all recent updates at a guess current ones would be more like this

2 Ghz CPU
2 Gb Ram
512 mb GPU

not really sure

I'm running 5 Ghz CPU /16 GB RAM 2 GB GPU and no lg at all except sometimes when invasion or some other event is on Flash crashes because it cannot handle that much data/flash was not designed to cope with this kind of game

if you really want to know ask support

i have schoolkids in my clan playing this on basic netbooks...

i myself use an inspiron 17r with a i5 processor..cost just over £400...its so good i now have 2 of them...

i also have 100meg fibre optic...

to be honest..you want min requirements...so...

normal landline supplied by someone like bt..or sky..(if your from uk) just wont do it...your only gonna get 2meg at best...and thats gonna be a lag nitemare....your gonna need at least a basic fibre optic connection..which i believe is about 20meg standard..

as for computer...you can pick up basic student jobbies for arround £300. they wont be all singing all dancing..but they will play this game...just might have a bit of trouble with screen size (resolution). but playable..

lets face it..i can still play lag free on a 6 year old xps 15inch laptop that doesnt have half the output of the latest £300 basic laptops..(dont ask me about tech specs..im thick..)

Hello .:Assassinate:.

Thankyou to all for your answers.

I could not locate any specific game requirements on either the DarkOrbit, or Bigpoint sites. Given the nature of the game, it would be difficult to recommend any, since updates to the game may require improved computer capability to run it effectively. It would also depend on your choice of Browser, and Flashplayer settings, as there is no offline component, so everything needs to be run through those tools.

You could attempt to raise this as a query in Speaker's Corner, and players can provide a description of their gameplay experience along with their computer specifications, or you can raise the question with Support.
There is a link in my signature for convenience.

Do you have further questions?

Thanks, =SERAPH=,

If it's not a problem for you to move this thread to speaker's corner would be great(No need to create a new one I think).

Now about my connection:
I live in a country, where the internet is with a very high speed (Just made a speed test to London ~1250 miles away from me: 73ms, 29.88 MB/s dw speed and 12.61MB/s upload speed).

There was a time when I could do gates, but now I am afraid that this is no longer possible for me. At the moment on normal maps with background turned off I play with max 17 fps(if not moving at all) and when there is events running my fps on the space map drops down to 3(in the best cases).

I optimized my video card to run on 256 MB now on cost of losing some RAM (1.5 GB down to 1.25 GB) but that doesn't seems to change anything. Now I am looking for a solution (probably buy a new computer) to run the game normaly, but still this is a browser based game, I should be able to play it on an old computer.

Normally the two things which could improve your gaming experience the most is, speed of the CPU + CPU cache size, and speed of the drive / SDD / Raid0 / Ramdrive you are using for your temp files.

In your case your video card seem to use shared system memory to operate.

I think having a dedicated video card would lower the stress on the OS.
Shared ram for video card usually is not a good solution because that ram may be needed by the OS (1,25 GB of ram for OS is very small), and Ram on-board dedicated video cards usually are a lot faster.

Note that Flash Player until recently was not even using your GPU at all, it seems they are slowing adding them. But CPU speed to me and according to the tests I made with my own hardware back then, seems to be what influence the overall game performance the more.

Also note that playing a too big resolution on a computer which is not fast enough to handle it properly, will cause a serious drop in the number of FPS you get while playing the game.

Big resolutions not really being needed when doing gates you should consider lowering your resolution for doing them.

Finally do not forget to play with the settings because some players found out that the lowest graphic settings were not necessarily the one working the better for them (no background issue).

Hope that helps.

To add to what Hat said

On board graphics card as well as on board sound card will eat a lot of your CPU power and will have great impact on your gaming experience

to get your PC performing better sometimes simple solutions are best ones

Defrag your hard drive /remove all unnecessary files

invest few pounds in dedicated sound card - you can get one for few quid

Download something like PC Utilities 2012 (free program) and use it to optimize your pc

disable all background programs in your task manager that you do not need to run game itself ...youtube is big resource killer as is any media player

if using Win XP as OS change to classic look and you will notice improvement

If thinking of upgrading there are lot of great deals going on at the moment, don't go for cheap pre built option ,build PC yourself and it will last you few more years than buying some established name brand. When it comes to pre built PCs one rule to remember ---if it is cheap it is rubbish.

would give you great idea of gaming pc for less than 300 quid but that would be another advertising infraction

Hi .:Assassinate:. I use an old pc and normal get around 35 fps and rarely have problems in gates unless do is having problems at there end.

I had a dimension 2400 which has an in built graphics card so that eats up my performance.

I only have 1.5gb ram. About 2 yrs ago I increase the ram from 1gb because DO was staring to have problems.

and I only have an intel pentium 4 2.8ghz processor.

I do however work hard to optimise my system.

I use ccleaner (free ware) to clean my cache and flash cache ( then set flash to unlimited left click on start page settings...) every time before I play and to clean my registry keys.

I use game booster (free ware) to turn of all unnecessary background programs.

And also turn of a couple of process from the task manager if necessary.

Its is worth checking that your fan ducting and chip heat sink are free from dust or any other obstructions. If your chip is getting hot it can slow your system down considerably.

As has been said if you have not defragged for a long time its worth doing.

Its worth checking you task manager to see what your cpu usage is and if its high like mine always is, then see what is using up your memory, to see if you can further reduce any additional usage while playing.

It is also worth finding a good free ware pc cleaner. the one I use isn't brilliant as it doesn't sort everything out, but the info it give allow me to sort out many of the issue it finds. including driver updates in the past.

It is worth trying out all browsers as different browsers work better or worse on different systems.

There are a few more things you can do to clean your system, but it would depend on your level of computer knowledge. Such as free ware called "hijack this" that allows you to remove unwanted stuff from your system, but you have to be careful what you remove with it.

Just to confirm you internet connection to the DO sever you play on, you can run... a cmd ping test to the server.

Here is my results, which is reasonable. You would need to replace the gb1 for which ever server you where testing.

Pinging gb1.darkorbit.bigpoint.com [178.132.240.126] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 178.132.240.126: bytes=32 time=35ms TTL=51
Reply from 178.132.240.126: bytes=32 time=37ms TTL=51
Reply from 178.132.240.126: bytes=32 time=38ms TTL=51
Reply from 178.132.240.126: bytes=32 time=39ms TTL=51

Ping statistics for 178.132.240.126:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 35ms, Maximum = 39ms, Average = 37ms

Hope this helps.

Regards, Pacman.

I have shared graphics card (Intel HD 2000) and FPS is always 60-62..

Lowest specs for DO I played was:
1.5 Ghz AMD
768MB RAM
128MB Ati Radeon

And I had 9-16 fps (depending of action).
~30kb/s of internet speed was quite OK (completed gates even).
