This is the Full Story of
NightStar.
Night was falling, More ships were appearing at the space station as a group of pilots wrapped up their day. These pilots were The Red Knight, Luan, Marshao, and Myself. My name is OneStar. Red, Luan, and Marshao are all my friends, I was returning to the space station when a thought occurred to me, I had never told them the Story of NightStar, Quite possibly the greatest Leader I ever had. We were in a clan called 'The Forgotten Ones' or TFO.
As we settled down, preparing to shutdown for today, I decided to round up my friends and spin the tale of NightStar.
"My Friends, I have something to share with you."
Marshao was the first to respond, "Is it extra Uridium? I'm running a bit low" He joked.
"No", I smiled at my companion's abilty to joke after today, we had been sent back to the spacestation an exessive amount of times today. "I have a Story to share with you."
Luan Spoke next, "Good, I need a good break after today. Your story's haven't dissapointed me yet." I looked at Red, he appeared half asleep but I could tell he was listening.
We all sat within the near-full circle created by my Goliath. I stood in thought for a moment as I recalled the events that got NightStar killed.
"Well come on, let's hear it" Luan urged.
"Well" I took a deep breath "Alright. Two years ago, there was a pilot called NightStar. NightStar was known as 'The Guardian' for he seldom watched as members of his company be destroyed. And if they were, he was sure to avenge them. NightStar was the leader of The Forgotten Ones, I was his Right hand."
"Okay, you're saying 'was' alot. Is he like... dead or missing or something?" Luan questioned.
"I'll get to that. Anyways, NightStar and me were always hunting together, and if we wern't hunting, we were guarding portals. The things we did together, the things we achieved. I still remember Title hunting with him. We'd catch the other company's members offguard so much. But I won't go telling about that stuff... The real story is how he was... You know... Ended."
My friends edged closer with intrest.
"I'll tell of the day that it all happened. One day, NightStar and me were out hunting. The two of us were taking loads of names together. We were having a grand old time together in the battle maps. Things changed when a good portion of the radar turned red. We were in 4-1, and we had been torturing MMO. There were Fifty kills between us, we ran into some people twice. At the point the radar turned red, it was obvious that it was time to leave. Red was spilling in from all sides of the map, from all gates, minus the center, however we were midway on the left side of the map. Turns out an MMO and EIC hunting packs were about to collide. Being the only two VRU on the map, we were right in the middle of it. I turned to NightStar, and asked.
'Well this is just perfect! You wanna run?'
'Obviously it's a bit late for that OneStar!'
I caught sight of both packs as they came into view.
'Hoo boy... Here we go...'
The first shot was fired on me from the EIC side, the first shot from the MMO side was fired on NightStar. I blinked and both sides engaged in a light show unlike any other.
As the two sides erupted, NightStar and I promptly Fired an EMP and fled into the mass swarm of ships.
"Cloak! Now!" NightStar shouted over the radio, "Fire another EMP if you have to! There's no way they can find a cloaked ship in this mess!"
He was right, and wrong at the same time. Other pilots locked into battle were firing EMP's as well. As soon as I had that thought I called to NightStar,
"Don't cloak until we reach the end of this mess! The EMPs will break them!"
If any other VRU could see a map of 4-1 at this very moment, they'd see two blue dots engulfed in a sea of red.
We reached the center portal, for one, we could only go by memory of the map, the ports were shrouded in red on the radar. Seconds later we reached the top port, Cloaked, jumped and sped to the bottom left portal of 2-4 Which was heavily guarded by EIC, the second they saw fast red dots on their radars, they were on us in a heartbeat. We made the last jump and finally came to a halt at the top left portal of 3-3.
I let out a heavy sigh and checked the damage to the ship, 34 Hitpoints! Sheilds next to gone.
"Let's not have that happen again OneStar."
"Don't tell me you're going to blame me for that mess."
"No, I mean let's NOT go into 4-1 again. I never liked the B-maps."
"Hunting today was your idea..."
He said nothing afterwards, so I pressed the button to release the repair bots.
"Wow" Luan sighed "To think you could escape that... It's... Unreal."
"So... What happened after that?" Marshao asked.
"Afterwards,"
...The next day, the story of the 4-1 engagement was in everyone's conversations. The least concerned about the mess were VRU, mainly because thyey had No idea that we were in that mess. We were at port, preparing to leave when a message came over the VRU alert radio.
'There has been reports of large EIC attack forces outside of 3-3! All available are Urged to move to the top left portal of 3-3 Immedately!'
"That's our cue to leave OneStar. Let's go."
The VRU was noticeably pushing twoards 3-3 as several ships were moving at the sound of the call. I wondered if the MMO were to find out what was going on, what would they do? And if they did anything, who would they attack? As both companies were becoming Vunerable as the space in 2-4 and 3-3 was now cluttered with next to hundreds of ships.
A good portion of TFO was being collected as NightStar and me moved to 3-3 along with several other allies. Yet another mass fight was about to break out.
"NightStar..." asked one of our members, "Do you know what's with the EIC lately? I heard you and OneStar were caught in the middle of a Massive fight in 4-1 yesterday."
"They be cocky. Always been that way." he replied
"It seems like they're attacking all the companies in force." I commented
"Who's left after that? Themselves?" another of our clanmates laughed.
"Probably." NightStar sighed "And I wanna be there cloaked and with a bag of popcorn when it happens."
As we came up on the 3-3 2-4 port, the place was packed with dozens of Goliaths, Vengis and a few stray Bigboys. And more were pouring in.
"Look at them... There must be hundreds..." said another clanmate. At those words the portal went active and Dozens apon dozens of EIC ships poured out. The sight of them was like a mass metal cloud. Their pack suddenly organized and a stream of EIC ships started rushing twoards the center of the map. A full minute passed before a voice came over VRU comms
"CHARGE!" to this day I don't know who said it.
At those words, the VRU armada collected and pushed head on into the center of the map.
The second one VRU caught sight of an EIC, and Vice versa, all Hell broke loose.
NightStar suddenly shouted "Forward my friends! Send them home!" then he vanished into the gargantuan cloud of Ships, lasers, and rockets. I followed suit and fired on the first thing I centered my targeter on. Then a burst of RSB slammed the side of my ship, I swung my Goliath around to face a diminisher which promptly started using all of it's weapons. My ship shuddered as a barrage of hellatorms and whites tried penetrating my sheilds. I struggled to swipe my hand across the dash at the line of buttons which would unleash my Lasers and rockets. The second I had him locked, I fired everything, hellstorms, RSBs, and instasheild and a combo EMP afterwards rendering my ship invulnerable for a total of six seconds. In those seconds, his sheilds were gone and ship followed shortly.
Further into the fray, hundreds of ships had been destroyed and many others forced back, the fight was ending. My ship had sustained serious damage, I was left with Sixty thousand hitpoints. NightStar collected with me we limped back to the bottom right portal of 3-3 on our slow sheild configurations to avoid being mugged by aliens.
"How many did you get?" I asked NightStar
"Not alot, never too much hope getting a kill in mobs like that. I got five though."
I sighed as I had only managed to destroy that one diminisher but I had damaged several others.
"So what are we doing after we repair? Hunt BKs?"
"Sounds good, the clan could do with more cred-" NightStar abruptly stopped talking.
"What? What is it?" I didn't need an answer when more than thirty MMO ships came into Veiw.
"Oh... Not good..." I whispered to myself.
Then caterwauling from NighStar came across the radio, it turns out I had been sitting and staring in awe and he had already got back to port.
"OneStar! What are you doing?! Turn around! Get out of there you moron!"
Suddenly realizing that I had paused, I came toand swung my ship around, EMPed, and cloaked. Lasers suddenly hit me, I just have to make it to port...
Powerful shots rocked my already damaged cruiser. Slipping to the port and slamming a closed fist on the jump portals button, my ship flashed out of the map and appeared in 3-2 next to NightStar's Sentinel, which had gotten a thorough head start on repairs. I sighed and looked at my gauges, 600 hitpoints, sheilds next to gone. Not nearly as close as my last little dash of luck, but enough to brag about.
"Wow, you're pretty good at not exploding" Luan's voice broke into my story.
"You should teach me someday..." Mumbled Red who turned out to not be asleep.
"Anyways..." I went on with my story.
The next day fell fairly normally. Regular small raiding parties would bug NightStar and me while we killed BKs. NightStar had found a BBK and began to tank it with his more than serious sheild config while I provided damage. The BBK was nearing it's death when the brigt flash of a smart bomb knocked his HP down very low. Startled, he moved away from the BBK while simultaneously using backup sheilds and his fortress ability as an MMO Goliath uncloaked on him while he was weak. I retaliated with a burst of RSB and whites. Then I noticed a fast, second red dot come near us. It was cloaked as well. However, instead of finishing NightStar, a Lightning vengeance uncloaked on the MMO pilot.
"What is this, a hate crime?" a witty comment from NightStar as he scooted twoards the nearest port.
The MMO Goliath, taken aback by the fact that it was now two on one, turned and fled, leaving NightStar to limp back to port. The Vengance finished the Goliath and returned to me.
That's when I realized that the Vengance was not only MMO, but it was DeadStar. The infamous Rouge Vengi that is part of the 'Star' family. He is well known for his outstanding honor and rank and also for shooting down MMO ships on a regular basis.
"Well If it ain't DeadStar." NightStar's voice came over the radio. "Saved me again, what would I do without you."
"Its a pleasure mate. Friends before allies."
"The old rouge creed." I finished his statement.
"What brings you to the uppers?"
"Well I was looking to destroy VRU so my reputation isn't tarnished but now I'll have that one spreading words about me. Infact his clan is already sore at me. I'll be looking forward to that. And if you don't mind, I don't have time for a reunion."
"Stay Safe DeadStar." NightStar called as he left our Frequency, cloaked, and sped away.
Part Five: The Fall, Dead Eye
"How come we've never seen DeadStar?" Marshao asked
"I can almost guarantee he's been lurking around us while we're hunting. He knows not to shoot you guys."
"So what's next?" Luan asked
I drew a deep breath, "Okay... The next part of the story includes information I swore on my life that I wouldn't release."
"How Secrect can it be?" Marshao questioned.
"Like, I will be shot out of an Airlock in the most remote part of space for telling you this..."
"Sweet" Luan Giggled.
So I continued with the story...
As NightStar was working on repairs, a terrible caterwauling came over the main VRU frequency.
"There's been an attack on the 3-8 base! Several MMO have breached the station! Assistance required!" the female voice was cut short by a thud and followed with static.
"OneStar... You don't think that was-"
"Oh I know it..." The voice was of my dearest Mylenah. She happened to be the log officer on the 2-8 station. The MMO wanted our records an she was all that was in the way.
I slammed a closed fist on the jump button and pushed the throttle to the max, NightStar was right behind me.
"You're gonna need a weapon." I told him over the comms.
"My Rifle is ready."
We came in on the station Which was surrounded by MMO and VRU ships, some were engaged in combat whole others were docked. I sped twoards the airlock and brought my ship in and landed. NightStar swelled his hulking sentinel in behind me and we both rushed twoards the lift. We stepped in and I hit the button to the logistics department. NightStar loaded his rifle while I made sure I had plenty of UCB rounds for my magnum.
The Elevator Stopped
The Doors slid open
And right there we faced a band of MMO troops. We dropped them with Deadly presison an moved on down the hallway. Laser fire echoed through the corridors as our company members fought to repel the invasion.
Met with little resistance on the way to the logistics room, I paused to enter a code to the door and it slid open.
NightStar took point and I followed, Five MMO pilots turned around and revealed the tall leader of the raid, who was holding a weapon to Mylenah's back.
Forcing myself to not charge forward, we had a short staredown and then the leader spoke,
"You're too late, nothing will stop me." At that moment I was sure he was going to Execute Mylenah right in front of me, but Instead he pointed his pistol in our direction at the door, pulled the trigger, and a white UCB round hit NightStar Square In the chest.
I hardly thought before I squeezed the trigger on my magnum, Placing Five Shots on each of the MMO as the leader rushed Mylenah out of the room and sealed the door behind him.
My hand loosened and my weapon fell to the floor. I turned to my leader where he was croched on the floor with a hand over his open wound.
"NightStar... No...I must get you help!"
"No no no... Save her, my time has come."
"Please NightStar! You need help!"
"Listen to me!" He started to cough, "It is too late for me, but it is not too late for her! My wound is fatal. Mylenah can still be saved!"
"You need-"
"Don't argue with me OneStar! If he gets off this station with her, the MMO will learn all of our secrets! All of our plans! Do Not lose a thousand lives just to save me!! It is MY time, not hers! Go now! GO!"
Choking on sorrow, I left NightStar... And went to the elevator. I punched the button to the hangar.
On the way down, a realization occurred to me, that man has just killed my best friend, and now he's going to do the same with the love of my life... I told myself...
"That is NOT going to happen."
The door opened, and I steped off the lift just in time to see Mylenah struggling with her captor.
Having taken NightStar's C39LF3 Laser rifle with me, I Aimed for the man, fired, and took his hat clean off his head. He turned, stunned.
"Stop. Release her and I wont kill you." I edged closer with the weapon aimed at him.
"You want her so bad, come take her from me." He placed the barrel of his weapon next to her head.
At that moment a Revenge Vengance came through the airlock sheilds and came down on top of the leader's parked Goliath. The cockpit burst open and a dark flash popped out, it was another MMO.
"Sloppy landing mate!" the leader scoffed.
The figure came at him,
"Oh I am NOT your Mate..." the other MMO slapped the weapon out of his hand and ground tackled him, "Killing one of the Stars does not go unpunished!" he shouted. That's when I realized the Other MMO was DeadStar.
I lowered my weapon in shock and watched as DeadStar wrestled with the leader, the two of them were Edging Dangerously close to the Airlock shield. They stood up and it became a pushing contest as The leader attempted to Push DeadStar into space. He gave another thrust but DeadStar leaped out of the way and the leader fell out of the airlock, his screams silenced by the Vacum of space.
I was Frozen. I wanted to rush over to Mylenah, but couldn't budge myself. Instead I stood with my mouth open, unable to comphrend what just happened.
All I knew is that NightStar... The Guardian... His death was Not in vain.
