View Full Version : item upgrading
i get a little confuse with the item upgrade thing. i upgraded an iris but still can't see any changes, only that now it says lvl 2 or upgrade 2 drone but not any increase on 10/20% if there is actually an increase of it.. also if i upgrade a LF-3 by 5% does it means it will hit 157 ( 157 being a 5% more or less of 150) of the 150 initial damage?? please someone explain it to me i don't want to waste 3k uri on unnecessary things. Thanks...
No No No, you got it all wrong,
The percentages are written somewhere in forums. the FAQ for drone upgrades i believe, once something (whether its a drone, laser, shield generator, hellstorm rocket launcher) The damage it does or shields it has increases, the percentage for every level is very small, so you wont see the increase per level, only once all of your equipment is pretty high level
I do know that once something is level 16 (max level) it has a 4% increase on shield generation or damage,
The percentage is only the percent chance that the upgrade will be successful. example, iris level 1 to level 2, 5% chance of successful upgrade costs 200 uridium , but as the better chance goes up, the more it costs . do this wisely :)
All in all i would definitly not upgrade my lf3., i would upgrade shields first (b02) and then drones (iris) unless you already have A lf4 or multiple, then i would upgrade lf4 first, (Dont Upgrade LF3 !)
thanks for the no upgrading the lf-3 info. i tried the 200 uri upgrade like 50 times and no luck but once i did the 3k uri upgrade it upgraded like magic.. still wonder why O.o.. well.. ill probably upgrade a few iris not sure if ill go all the way if like u say a 16 lvl is needed on an iris to see some little improvement. i get insta pop a lot by big players with my ship having a 300k shield and been a goli so little more shield will be like puting a blanket on me to stop a bullet..
thanks a lot for the info
The thing that will help you MOST stay alive, is knowing how to set up your configurations, i have a thread about this, copy and paste the website,
or just click (http://en.board.bigpoint.com/darkorbit/showthread.php?t=438000) <-- To get there automatically
Also, theres a FAQ about the upgrades, its VERY helpful, and would answer many of your questions :)

The reason your 5% chance upgrades didn't work is because the 5% means the chance that the upgrade will be successful. The more uridium you want to use, The better chance of a possible success in upgrading the item. Just go to the FAQ, It helps alot, be sure to read it all :)
Hope this helps
Thankyou for your assistance BLUE_NOVEMBER.
When you Upgrade an item, it will not display the increase to the base stats. The 10%/20% bonuses listed for the Iris are based on the experience level of the drone, and are separate from the Upgrade Level - the Upgrade Level bonus is applied to the item, before other bonuses.
I will refer you to the Upgrading System FAQ (http://en.board.bigpoint.com/darkorbit/showthread.php?t=403479), and the chart included:
The yellow figures across the top indicate the chance of success when Upgrading. The default value is 5%, and this can be increased to 100% (guaranteed upgrade) for a higher cost.
The actual bonuses/benefits of the different Upgrade Levels are listed in the left hand column. The bonus will apply to the base stat of the item, which is then increased by any other modifiers as standard.
Example: An LF-3 Upgrade Level 16 gains a 6% increase to damage. This increases the laser damage from 150 to 159. Boosters, Design Bonus, Material Bonus, etc... will then all stack as normal.
Do you have further questions?
to add to that. a fully upgraded elite item (one that costs uri not creds) that is used for damage, ie lasers, rocket launchers, and drones will get a 6% boost at level 16. a fully upgraded eleite item that is for sheilds ie sheilds and drones will get a 15% boost at level 16.
Thank you all for assisting this player with their question.
Does the OP have any further questions on this topic?
