I recently purchased 10 mines, and was in a dogfight when I deployed one. During the course of the fight, I ended up detonating my own mine.
Now, in the game, this is an era of space flight, off world inhabitation, and other such marvels, you would think a simple transponder code signal from the deploying ship would keep the mine from detonating when the deployer gets too close.
After all, US Military has IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) Mode 4 or Mode 5 on many of their systems. This keeps accidental friendly fire situations from happening. This is during this day and age.
A little modification to the existing mines to not blow up on their user would be nice. Just a thought.

It seems obvious : mines should only arm ships from the two other companies.

you all right, mines are useless for the user atm, because once i have laid a mine i can't remember the exact location of it, and also if you get chased and lay a mine, you won't hit the goli chasing you as it has a 5 sec arm time in which you and the enemy goli have gone way past the spot you dropped it. also if you lay a mine near enemy you have to hope that they hit the mine while your close by, or else you end up waiting there for ages, then an enemy goli comes up behind you and attacks then you run over your own mine etc.... i don't use mines in general.:)

agreed, mines should only go off when people from the other company flies over them. There is another problem thought with this and that is weather to keep all the mines the same color so its a surprise if its one of your companies, or its an enemy mine or give each company different colored mines to tell the difference.
