Default Ability Tree

As you may know, the level of a player in this game has little meaning. So I suggest that an Ability tree be added along with the skill list. Each ability would cost Ability Points(Which would be gained every 5 levels), and would increase in amount for a base ability as one goes further down the tree. Each ability may be upgraded up to lvl 10, each lvl costing the same as the cost of the base ability. Each ability lvl would increase base traits(such as how long it lasts, how large of an area it covers, ect). Every 5 ability lvls, the ability would gain a new attribute(i.e. Crowd Splitter would go from a directional blast to a blast in all directions) Abilities would fill up the slots in the bottom right of the playing screen(Not sure what to call them). It would look like this(Sorry if it is a bit messy, but the forum would not let me have spaces floating freely):

Descriptions:

Power Shot: Shoots a blast that does a small amount of damage to everything in its path
Hardening: Gives the player a defensive shield, adding 500 hp to their ship for a short span
Drone Deploy: Gives the player a drone that will attack anything that attacks the player or the player attacks, self destructs after a short span
Area Scanner: Scans asteroids in a small area around the player, takes a long time to recharge
Ascend/Descend: Gives the player the ability to move straight up or down, without turning their ship
Crowd Splitter: Shoots a blast that pushes players away from the origin/origin beam
Force Field: Prevents other players from entering the area around the player for a short span
Artillery Fire: Calls a rain of large explosions upon target, does minimal damage
Teleport: Teleports the player to a random position in a small radius
Lightning Field: Surrounds the player in a field that damages all who are within
Healing Shield: Produces a shield around the player which heals the player for every shot that hits it
EMP Blast: Shoots a beam of an electo-magnetic field that prevents the use of Electronic Support and Electronic Warfare devices.
Stasis Field: Prevents opposing players inside the field from moving for a short time

As others have pointed out, these abilities do not follow the BSG story. However, Im sure the devs/developers can come up with alternative abilities that are more suitable for the series.

No, no, no, no.

If the Devs put this kinda stuff in the game you'd see mass exodus of players.

this is BSG the re-imagined series. we dont have energy shields. maybe the stasis field could be changed to something more canon friendly?, maybe EMP burst for colonials and computer virus upload for cylons?

Dude canon went out the window the moment they introduced escorts, lines and carriers, sides since this is what i would call "The lost episode" who is to say that the abandoned ships didnt have some of those abilities?

Kinda stuff doesn't exist in Battlestar Galactica. Granted this game has gone WAY off the deepend far as the show is concerned but they have stuck to:

No Shields, No Lasers, no star wars/star trek stuff. BSGO is what it is, stop trying to make it like star wars.

Not seeing where this is any different from the existing skill system...well except for all the "What the frak?!?" abilities listed.

Best part of the idea right here- leave it to the devs. And completely out of the game...sorry, but it's felgercarb through and through.

Then try this explanation on: "No to BattleStarDungeonsAndDarkDragonOrbitWarsTrek." One of the game's largest existing problems is just how much it urinates all over BSG canon. Any changes should attempt to move it closer to that canon, or at least plausible parallel to it, and not farther along the "Who cares about BSG, add kewl stuffz 4 teh lulz" track.
