Default Reverse-Thrusters

Idea: additional component to be placed in the Engine slots:

"Reverse-Thrusters"

So many times, when flying at insane speeds of 128 or more, it takes a LONG frakkin time to stop. Not to mention with the mass of larger ships like the Jotunn.

So my proposal is this:

An engine-slot addition (to be purchased along side boosters, ductings, gyros, RCS, etc) that for a duration, will give you a burst out the front of your ship, allowing you to slow down more rapidly. Like in "Top Gun" - Imma hit the brakes, and he'll fly right by.

as far as the mechanics of the system...well...I'll leave that up to discussion.

Ready?

GO!

i just cant imagine anyone actually using them in favor of acceleration if they want to slow faster.
acceleration (torque) is what effects your slowing down speed too btw. a good thread that goes into this is the maneuvers idea started by paradox in my sig. i think i put it up for idea votes too. with that strikes could flip and boost to stop.

this could work out better for lines. they could use it to make strikes bounce off the back of them but again, i just cant see it being used.

Oh yeah.

If we had a surprise like this up our sleaves, maybe there wouldn't be so many long drawn out chases to the back of beyond.

I like.

Supposedly reverse thrusters are already built into the game, only they are automatic without any manual controls given to the user. Otherwise just easing up on the throttle would never stop a ship.

The to-do and idea list is long brother, but u keep fighting.

I had this exact same idea the very first day I started playing, which lead me to the question of the astrophysics, which was clearly ignored while developing the game, and why. It's the main reason I even started frequenting the forum for an answer.

I think a front reverse booster would be a great idea. Add an engine slot on the nose for an advanced ship that wants to spend cubits/merits for a variant/extra tier ship version.

I don't cruise as fast as Canuck at 128 (118 for me), but it's still really annoying and goes against what is depicted in the show.
